Manuela dos Santos Barreiro

Manuela dos Santos Barreiro is 51 years old and currently attending the second year of the Masters in Translation and Multilingual Communication in University of Minho. After having been an antiques dealer, a chandelier restorer and Head of Administrative Services in a medical facility she decided to finally pursue her love of language and literature and in 2013 she got a Bachelors Degree in European Languages and Literature with English as the major language and Spanish as the minor. Studying British poetry was mandatory and, even though she already knew and loved some American poets, she became increasingly interested in poetry written in English which lead to her reading American and Irish poets, namely Yeats. Translation allows her to work with what she love: language and literature. She has already done some translations for Congresses organized by University of Minho and for a publishing company but never before attempted to translate poetry.
